I haven’t done one of these in a while so I figured why not post an update on what I’m currently reading! I’m not going to lie, this is mostly to motivate me to actually finish some of these since I’m hoping the reading slump is almost over.
Sweet Temptation by Wendy Higgins
This is the fourth book in the Sweet Evil trilogy, but instead of being a continuation of the story it’s the entire trilogy told from the point of view of the love interest Kaidan. I loved Sweet Evil when I first read it and continued to enjoy the trilogy even though the last two didn’t quite pull me in like the first one. It’s a really unique story, definitely something that I haven’t read before, and it was a lot of fun to read. It’s also a pretty dark series, focusing on demons and their children that are forced to spread and encourage sins throughout the world. I read the original trilogy a while ago so I don’t remember everything that happened but it’s really interesting getting to read the story from the opposite perspective, I’m not too far in but I’ve already had to change the way I viewed Kaidan from scenes that I read through Anna’s point of view and not his. The writing is definitely a bit much, but so is the story so I’m not really bothered by it.
Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab
This is one that I was sooo excited to pick up but I’m having some trouble forcing myself to pick it up. I loved This Savage Song and I”m so excited to be back with the characters that I love. I’m almost 150 pages in and I love where the story is going and the new characters that we’ve met so I’m really excited to see where the book goes. I think that this is one that I just need to finish in one or two more sittings because I know once I read a bit more I’m just going to be completely sucked in.
Deep Blue by Jennifer Donnelly
This is one that I picked up on a whim one day and read about 20 pages of, I fully intended to pick it back up but never have. I’m a big fan of her writing, and of mermaids so I’m really hoping that I’ll love this one. From what I figured out in the little bit that I read I think that it’ll be an interesting story, and definitely unique to what I usually read. I’m hoping to pick this one up sometime soon but I’m worried that I’ll put it off until next spring or summer since winter just might be the wrong season for a book about mermaids.
