Top Ten Tuesday: Books By My Favourite Authors That I Still Need To Read

Untitled 52

What’s this? There’s multiple Top Ten Tuesday topics in one month that I actually like? What can I say, I love a topic that’s vague and easy to actually come up with ten answers for! This one is fun because I’m awful at keeping up with books, I mean we all are aren’t we, so it was pretty easy to come up with ten. And they’re all ones that I’m really excited to read! If you want more info about Top Ten Tuesday then the link to the original post is right here.

ONE /// Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare
I think it should be obvious by this point that I’m a massive fan of the Shadowhunter books by Cassandra Clare, I’ve read City of Bones quite a few times and love the entire series and I still say that The Infernal Devices is one of my all time favourite book series even though it’s been years since I’ve read it. I recently reread the first four books in The Mortal Instruments series and read Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and just loved all of them so I really need to get to this one. Especially since the first two books in the trilogy are out and the last one comes out at the end of the year. I know that so many people love these so I’m really excited (and terrified) to get to them.

TWO /// Competence by Gail Carriger
I’ve talked about this one so much but I will continue to do so until I finally get my hands on it. I’ve loved every single thing that I’ve read by Carriger and I know that this one will be the same for me. She just writes the most amazing and ridiculous steampunk stories filled with characters that I just love. I’m so curious to see what this next part of The Custard Protocol is like because I know it’ll be an amazing read.

THREE /// Suitors and Sabotage by Cindy Anstey
I had Love, Lies and Spies as one of my absolute favourite reads of 2016 and Duels and Deception is one of my favourites from this year so I really can’t wait to get my hands on her latest release. She just writes some of the best YA historical romances, they’re so much fun and so out there that you can’t help but be drawn into the story. I love all the drama and romance and I really want to see what these characters are like! She also has a Christmas themed book coming out next that I am so excited for.

FOUR /// The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo
We all know that I am a massive fan of Leigh Bardugo, I’ve been in love with her writing since I first picked up Shadow and Bone a few years ago and I’ve just enjoyed everything that I’ve read by her since then. She writes some of the best fantasy and I love the world that she’s created with the Grishaverse and I know that I’ll read every single thing that she puts that takes place there. She also writes some of my absolute favourite characters, I mean we know that I love The Darkling and I’m a fan of all my baby crows so obviously she knows what shes doing. I’ve actually read the stories from this collection that were released years ago and I loved them so I’m really happy to get around to reading the new ones as well. And with the illustrations I just know that it’ll be an amazing book.

FIVE /// The Cruel Prince by Holly Black
I’ve been a fan of Holly Black since I first read The Coldest Girl In Coldtown a few years ago, I never expected to love it as much as I did but it was just such a unique story and I was sucked into it right away. I love how well she writes stand alone novels because she actually manages to wrap everything up while still providing a really well thought out story. I also read The Darkest Part of the Forest and it was another one that I just adored. She writes some of the most creative stories I’ve ever read and she writes books about the Fae so well. I’ve heard mixed reviews for this one but I really think that it’s one I’ll love, and it’s part of a series which is really fun because I think that the suspense and angst of it all will be truly thrilling.

SIX /// Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein
I think that it’s been a while since I’ve talked about it but Code Name Verity is probably my all time favourite book, it’s an absolute masterpiece that I was just enthralled the entire time. I’ve also read The Pearl Thief which was another amazing novel, she just writes historical fiction so well and her characters are so heart wrenching and wonderful. I’ve had this one on my shelf since I finished Verity in 2013 but I’ve been so nervous to read it because it seems like a really heavy book. I’m excited to read it though, ideally I’d like to reread Verity first but since it has disappeared somewhere in my best friends parents house (long story) I don’t know when I’ll get around to it.

SEVEN /// Defy the Stars by Claudia Gray
I’ve been a fan of Claudia Gray since I first read Evernight in 2009 and have loved everything that I’ve read by her. I don’t actually think I finished the Evernight series but I did really love the ones that I read and it’s one that I’ve been thinking about rereading. I’ve also read the first two books in her Firebird series and just loved them. She writes such different and well thought out stories, from boarding schools for vampires to cross dimensional travelling it’s just so fun to read and so exciting all the time. I’ve yet to finish either of the series by her that I’ve started (because I am literally The Worst) but I know I that I will and I really want to pick up Defy the Stars because it seems like a really neat sci fi novel. I don’t read much sci fi but if she’s writing it then I think that I’ll enjoy it.

EIGHT /// Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab
NINE /// Vicious by V.E. Schwab
I’m not sure if this is cheating, but technically it doesn’t say anywhere that you can’t include multiple books by one author so we’re going for it. I’ve read a decent amount of books by Schwab so far and I’ve loved every single one so much. The Shades of Magic series is one of the best that I have ever read, and This Savage Song was such an unexpected and wonderful book. There’s something simply magical about the way Schwab writes, there’s a flow to her writing that I haven’t experienced anywhere else and it’s something that is so unique and so amazing to read. I really want to finish up the Monsters of Verity duology with Our Dark Duet and I’ve heard so many amazing things about Vicious so I really want to get to it as well, especially with the sequel coming out soon.

TEN /// Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
I’m a bit wary about this one since I’ve heard very conflicting things about it but I’m still curious to see what I think and I still love her other novels so much that I think it’s worth a shot. I read Simon Versus the Homo Sapiens Agenda in one sitting last year and just fell in love with the writing right away. The Upside of Unrequited was my first read of 2018 and it just set off my reading year so well because I loved it so much. I’ve never read a book with a character that I relate to so much and it’s one of the best books that I’ve ever read and it holds such a special place in my heart. I’m definitely interested in reading Leah and I’m so hopeful that I can enjoy it like her other stories.
